Dermaplaning

dermaplaning

what is dermaplaning?

Preformed by one of our Certified Medical Aestheticians, Dermaplaning is a mechanical form of exfoliation. Best described as a crossover between hair removal and physical exfoliation. Using a medical-grade scalpel, the top layer of your facial skin is skimmed away to reveal rejuvenated skin.

what are the benefits of dermaplaning?

Targets: acne scars, dull skin, dry skin, sun damage and fine wrinkles.

Removes dead skin cells and vellus hairs (peach fuzz).

Helps increase cellular turnover.

Allows for deeper penetration of skin care.

Smoother makeup application. You will notice a difference in the way that makeup applies and how it looks much more even. With vellus hair no longer present, makeup will not get stuck in the hairs which often causes makeup to appear “cakey”.

Smoother, glowing skin.

dermaplaning & chemical peels

Dermaplaning and chemical peels go hand in hand! The removal of dead cells and peach fuzz allows for deeper penetration and more effective use of the chemical peel. Add a dermaplane to any of our medical or luxury facials. Many clients opt for this magical combination to optimize treatment outcomes and achieve a smoother and more radiant complexion.

Will dermaplaning make my hair grow back thicker?

It's common to feel a little stubble as your hair starts growing back in after dermaplaning. Your hair WILL NOT grow back thicker or darker. It has to do with the way each hair was cut straight across. The hair feels different to you, but it's the exact same texture and color as it was before dermaplaning. Hair will go back to feeling soft as it continues to grow back.

shaving vs dermaplaning

Both shaving and dermaplaning remove velus hair or what people call “peach fuzz”, but the similarities stop there. Professional dermaplaning is an exfoliation treatment that encourages cell renewal leading the skin to actively rejuvenate itself. Shaving, on the other hand, does not go nearly as far in terms of exfoliating. Dermaplaning clears away those skin cells damaged by environmental toxins, irritants, and sun exposure to reveal glowing, smooth skin.

pre care instructions

AVOID prolonged sun exposure. Dermaplaning on sunburnt skin is a no-no.

AVOID reinols or any skin care that causes irritation to your skin for one week prior to treatment. This includes manual scrubs and chemical exfoliants such as salicylic, glycolic and lactic acid.

If using prescription topical exfoliants such as Differin Gel, Epi Duo, Aczone, Tretinoin, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, we recommend you discontinue use one week prior to treatment.

DO NOT shave, wax or tweeze at least one week before your treatment to avoid arriving with razor bumps or damaged skin. It is best to allow the hairs to all grow out prior to treatment so that they are on the same growth cycle. If you have waxed or tweezed your hairs, it can take four to six weeks to grow them back.

post care instructions

It is important to avoid sun exposure following your dermaplaning as much as possible for a minimum of three days post-treatment. If you must be in the sun, apply SPF 30 or greater, reapply often and seek shade when possible. Wear sunscreen daily for the next two weeks.

After treatment, focus on hydration and the rejuvenation of your skin by using your ZO Skin Health serums. Your skin’s absorption levels will be elevated, which will make these products more effective.

We recommend a dermaplane treatment every four weeks. Clients get the most benefits when they do a series of treatments.
